Cancun!

Mikey and I just got back from a 5 night trip to the same hotel we went to for our honeymoon, the Sun Palace Resort in Cancun...it is an all-inclusive, adults only resort that we normally wouldn't ever be able to go on for summer vacation, but thanks to tax refunds and some diligent saving, we made it this summer as a celebration of our 3 years of marriage and as a last big hurrah before I start med school!  We are so glad to be home (and both recovering from a little travel sickness), but we had so many good times on our trip! It was nice to get away just the two of us :)  Here are a few of my favorite things from the trip...

1. salsa lessons!!  I really wanted to do these, and Mikey was such a good sport, since he isn't normally very into dancing.  We had such a great time!

2. reading on the beach while Mikey body surfed in the waves.  Since it rained 3 days in a row, we didn't get to spend as much time out on the beach as we would have liked, but when we could be out there, we were soaking it all up!! This part of the trip reminded me most of our honeymoon :)

3.  the night we went to the Italian restaurant at the resort and got to sit in this glass room, looking out over the pools and the beach.  The food was excellent, and the company was even better.  We talked about so many things, and it was such a sweet and beautiful time!

4.  we got 300 credits to spend at the spa, and my wonderful husband let me use all of them!  So I was at the spa more mornings than not...getting a back massage, a manicure, a pedicure, and a hot stone massage (I had been wanting to try this, and while it was very relaxing, I think I'll stick to plain ole regular massages from now on...fyi)  It was so nice having some pampering time to start out most of the days on our trip!

So those are the highlights, and here are some pictures to give you a better idea of our stay :)

Happy 3rd anniversary, Mikey!
I love you!

a dream fulfilled

Hope deferred makes the heart sick,
but a dream fulfilled is a tree of life.

-Proverbs 13:12

Some of you may know that I have had a full semester, as well as the summer that is now beginning, off from school, and while I have tried diligently to enjoy the break (and have largely succeeded!), I cannot help but identify with the verse above. Despite the many blessings of this season, my heart is a little bit sick...waiting, hoping, and looking forward to what is to come.  I do not mean to say that I have not thoroughly appreciated a mental and temporal break...this has been a beautiful and beneficial season in my life!  But there is something inside of me that loves to learn and to do more.  And, praise God!, I will be starting medical school at the end of August.

The past week and a half, I have been working on some preparatory materials for school, and I feel refreshed by it.  I feel like God has watered my soul just a little bit and reminded me of the plans that he has for my life...the plans that make me really feel alive.  And I am so thankful to know what I want to do and who I want to do it with!  I have so many friends who are still figuring out who and what they want to be one day, and for years now, my goal has been clear to me.  I want to be a physician.  I want to make sick people healthy and hurt people feel better.  As many people as I can.  And I want to love people.  And I want to learn for the rest of my life.  And I want to apply what I learn to make the world a better place.

And the amazing thing is...I am on my way!  I am doing what little I can now and preparing for the road ahead. My dreams are being slowly fulfilled, and I truly feel myself coming more alive as it happens!

"'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord. 'Plans to prosper you and not to harm you.  Plans to give you a hope and a future'" -Jeremiah 29:11
